Est-il l'idiot du village ou un génie compromis ? Noï, un adolescent de 17 ans, vit à la dérive dans un fjord reculé du nord de l'Islande. En hiver, le fjord est coupé du monde extérieur, cerné par des montagnes menaçantes et enseveli sous un linceul de neige.
Noï rêve de s'évader de cette prison blanche avec Iris, une fille de la ville qui travaille dans une station-service. Mais ses maladroites tentatives d'évasion se succèdent et échouent lamentablement. Seule une catastrophe naturelle fera voler en éclats l'univers de Noï et lui laissera entrevoir un ailleurs prometteur.
